Anatomy of a WINDOW
Windows have three basic elements - the Sash, the Frame and the Mechanics.
Understanding elements of a window will help you assess your window's needs.
We run a free workshop every month to help educate the old home community.
The window element that holds the glass. It may slide up and down, swing like a door or be fixed in place. It's totally removable when you perform the Mechanical Makeover
The window element that surrounds the sash. It's trimmed out with casing on both the inside and outside to span from the sash to the wall.
The element that gives the window it's functionality and/or secures the sash to the frame. It might be ropes, weights, pulleys, locks and lifts, or hinges, cranks, stays and latches.
