Part of the Uvalde Spring 2026 Window Craft Outpost Deployment

Learning the full system required to restore historic windows—and the leadership required to steward them at scale.

What This Workshop Is

The Total Window Makeover is the capstone workshop of the Uvalde Spring 2026 deployment.

Where the Intro to Sash Making focuses on a single critical component, the Total Window Makeover teaches participants how all parts of a historic window work together as a system.

Participants learn how to properly restore:

  • Window mechanics

  • Window sash

  • Window frames

  • Protective finishes

using the Five Pillars of Window Craft as a repeatable, field-tested framework.

This is not a surface-level overview. This is systems training for real-world restoration work.

Why the Whole Window Matters

Historic windows do not fail in isolation.

A sash cannot be evaluated apart from the frame. A frame cannot be evaluated apart from the mechanics. Finish cannot be applied properly without understanding water, movement, and exposure.

The Total Window Makeover exists because partial solutions create repeat failures.

This workshop trains participants to see the entire window, diagnose problems accurately, and sequence work correctly so that restoration lasts.

How the Workshop Works

Over five days, participants work through the complete restoration process using real windows in a working outpost environment.

Instruction is organized around the Five Pillars of Window Craft:

  1. Mechanics to Primed Frame (M2P) – Restoring function and structural integrity

  2. Stripped to Glazed Sash (S2G) – Preparing and glazing the sash for long-term performance

  3. Glazed to Finished Sash (G2F) – Applying protective finishes correctly

  4. Primed to Finished Frame (P2F) – Completing the frame for durability and water management

  5. Assembled and Tuned Frame (A&T) – Reuniting and tuning the window as a system

The emphasis is on:

  • Correct sequencing

  • Repeatable movements

  • Division of labor

  • Field efficiency

This is how one-off craftsmanship becomes scalable trade capacity.

Who This Workshop Is For

The Total Window Makeover is designed for participants who want to move beyond components and into systems thinking.

This includes:

  • Tradespeople ready to handle full window restoration

  • Preservation-minded builders seeking a complete framework

  • Alumni of Intro to Sash Making who want to integrate their skills

  • Individuals exploring leadership within Window Craft

Homeowners and enthusiasts are welcome. Those with leadership capacity will find this workshop especially formative.

Relationship to the Uvalde Outpost

This workshop takes place after the Outpost Build-Out and Intro to Sash Making.

Participants are learning inside a functioning outpost—with real tools, real workflow, and real constraints.

This context matters.

It allows participants to see:

  • How work is divided among people

  • How systems reduce friction

  • How leadership shapes outcomes

The Total Window Makeover is not just about windows. It is about how work is organized.

Cost and Value

Workshop Tuition: $2,000

This five-day workshop provides full exposure to the Window Craft system and prepares participants to:

  • Execute complete window restorations

  • Supervise or lead restoration work

  • Evaluate projects accurately

  • Serve historic house communities competently

For many, this workshop marks the transition from learning skills to leading work.

Looking Ahead

For some participants, the Total Window Makeover will stand on its own as a comprehensive training experience.

For others, it will become a stepping stone toward:

  • Advanced responsibility

  • Field leadership

  • Establishing Window Craft capacity in another community

The Uvalde outpost serves as a prototype. What is learned here is meant to travel.

Next Steps

When the whole window is understood, the work can be trusted.
