My Story: From Crisis to Craft

I was a seasoned carpenter when I took on my first full-house restoration. Hanging doors? Easy. Sliding windows? No problem — or so I thought.

Then a sash crumbled in my hand, rotten from termites.

I could rebuild the frame. But the sash? I had no idea where to start. I searched everywhere, finally found a guy named Ernie — the only sash maker in town — and he was weeks out.

I faced an ugly choice: Board up the window and make my client wait… or figure it out myself.

The Sash Factory Router Table.

Unlock Access to the Historic House Community

The Achilles Heel of Window Restoration

Here’s the truth: window sash are the weak link in most historic window restoration projects.

  • A good carpenter can tune up the frame.

  • A good painter can protect and seal it.

  • But when the sash is damaged or missing, the job hits a wall.

Most folks aren’t equipped to solve the sash problem.
At one point, neither was I.

The Birth of the Sash Factory

That was the moment I committed to learning sash making — really learning it.

  • I bought machines

  • I tried tools that didn’t work

  • I made mistakes (a lot)

  • And over time, I built a system

After years of trial and refinement, I created a dedicated router table setup with precision jigs and bits that can produce historic sash fast, accurately, and reliably.

That system became The Sash Factory.

Why It Matters

In the right hands, the Sash Factory can:

✅ Replicate most historic sash same-day
✅ Eliminate costly delays
✅ Empower small teams to restore entire neighborhoods
✅ Solve the sash problem permanently
✅ Make you the go-to in your community

No more Frankenstein repairs. No more waiting on a guy across town. No more boarding up holes.

You become the solution.

But It’s More Than a Machine

This isn’t just a tool — it’s a trade.

Owning a tractor doesn’t make you a farmer.
Owning a Sash Factory doesn’t make you a sash maker.

That’s why I sell it mostly in conjunction with hands-on training at my Intro to Sash Making workshops.

Yes, there are rare exceptions — but people who skip the training usually get stuck. It’s not about talent. It’s about understanding the system, the details, the process.

That’s why our workshops are designed to initiate you into this craft properly — with guidance, real-world practice, and a clear path forward.
