Each time block places the four expressions of the program side by side. Together, they show how historic windows are made, restored, protected, priced, and returned to service—and how capable artisans can build a living practice around the work.

SETTING UP AND TUNING THE SASH FACTORY
STEVE QUILLIAN
Learn how the compact Sash Factory is arranged, aligned, and tuned to produce accurate historic sash parts. Steve demonstrates the cope, profile, and rabbet sequence and explains how repeatable setup turns a collection of routers into a dependable production system.

Follow a traditional double-hung window from disassembly through reassembly. Jim demonstrates sash removal, access to the weight pockets, ropes, pulleys, weights, balancing, adjustment, and the sequence that returns a neglected window to dependable operation.

SCOTT WHOBREY
See how the Paint Shaver becomes part of an efficient paint-removal system. Scott demonstrates tool setup, work sequence, surface control, and preparation of historic wood for the finishing steps that follow.

Explore surface preparation, coating compatibility, wood porosity, moisture movement, permeability, oil and latex systems, linseed-oil putty, reversibility, maintenance, and the conditions that cause paint coatings to fail.

Discover how an intricate diamond-lite sash begins with an accurate full-scale layout. Steve demonstrates the geometry, angled joinery, muntin relationships, and sequence required to turn a complex design into parts that fit together correctly.

Examine the tools and methods used to diagnose, dismantle, repair, tune, and reinstall historic windows in the field. Jim and Scott show how an organized system reduces wasted motion and helps the craftsperson take responsibility for the entire opening.
