WindowLympics training for: Best Window Restoration + Finish Division Showcase
The Intro to Window Craft Workshop is a hands-on, five-day training experience that walks you through the complete process of restoring a historic window by breaking the window up into its three essential components - the sash, the frame and mechanics. From disassembly to final tuning, you’ll learn how to approach window restoration with precision, purpose, and the mindset of a true artisan.
Each day builds upon the last, blending carpentry, joinery, glazing, and finishing into a repeatable system you can use in the field or your own business.
What You’ll Learn:
Day 1: Mechanical Makeover Part 1
Learn to break the window down to its parts. Restore functionality, repair joinery, replace ropes and weights, and set up the window for all future work.
Day 2: Sash Makeover Part 1
Learn the finish and glass removal processes necessary to repair and restore sashes. Learn how to clean and re-use antique / cut and install new glass, and learn traditional glazing techniques using oil-based compound.
Day 3: Frame Makeover Part 1
Learn to repair, prep and prime the frame for durability and weather resistance using artisan-approved methods.
Day 4: Frame Makeover Part 2
Learn to protect and beautify your restoration with interior and exterior finishes. Prep sash for final finish.
Day 5: Sash Makeover and Mechanical Makeover Part 2
Reunite the sash and frame, install hardware, tune the assembly, and deliver a fully restored, functioning window.
Window Craft Showcase
On the last day, students submit their completed window for WindowLympics finish judging—a performance-based evaluation of craftsmanship, fit, finish, and flow.
