Intro to Window Craft is the foundational restoration experience of WindowFest. Led on a real Uvalde project house, the class teaches you to understand the opening, sequence the work and take responsibility for the complete window—not one isolated repair.
NOT A SHOWPIECE - A FOUNDATION
A REAL HOUSE WITH REAL NEEDS
This ordinary historic house is exactly where the fundamentals belong. Its windows provide a clear place to learn the movements, relationships and sequence of Window Craft without the complexity of a landmark building getting in the way.

The large yard becomes the joinery field. Intro to Sash Making operates alongside Intro to Window Craft so students can watch fabrication and restoration meet around the same need.

What begins at the project house does not end there. The same foundation governs the advanced work at the Opera House—complex sash, prior alterations, mechanics, fitting, finishing and the judgment required to bring difficult openings back into service.

Learn the joinery, geometry and sequence required to create historically appropriate wood sash from raw material. Make what the building needs.

Learn to understand and restore the existing window as a complete system: mechanics, sash, frame, finish and assembly. Return the opening to service.
