The Crack of Light: A Sacred Reminder We Were Made for More

All the earth was a window once.
That thought’s been following me—haunting me, even.
Before the walls, before the shelter, before the hiding… there was Eden.
A place without separation.
A world where light moved freely,
and nothing came between us and God.
But something changed. And ever since, we’ve been building walls to protect ourselves— even as they keep us from the very life we were made for.
This is a meditation on those walls…
and the crack of light that breaks through.
In the Beginning: A World Without Walls
In the beginning, there were no walls. No need for windows.
The garden was open.
Life was shared.
There was no need to hide. No reason to be afraid.

But then came shame.
Then came fear.
And with them, the instinct to withdraw—to separate, to self-protect.
And so we built.
Shelters, cities, masks, personas.
Not all of them bad—some necessary.
But all of them, to some degree, walls.
The Window: A Remnant of Grace
The window is a crack in our wall.
It’s a disruption in the defense.
A reminder. A mercy. A sacred rupture.
The light that breaks through the window
does more than warm the room—
it calls us back.
Back to what we were made for.
Back to connection.
Back to the garden.
Windows let in more than sunlight.
They let in pursuit.
They let in….
Him.
We Still Build Walls
Let’s be honest—walls can be good.
They give shape to our lives.
They offer rest, order, protection.
Nature encourages us to build them.
But walls that last are the ones built in alignment with nature’s laws—
the ones that breathe, flex, and open.
The ones that remember the window.
Because when we wall ourselves off too tightly,
Entropy steps in.
It’s not cruelty—it’s correction.
The crack of light breaks through.
The world gently, relentlessly breaks down our barriers.
Resist and be broken. Life will get in.
Light will return.
Nature will one day reclaim even our strongest walls.
And when it does, all the earth will become a window again.
The Work Is Out There
It’s safe inside.
The walls are comfortable.
Predictable. Familiar.
But you were never meant to live your whole life indoors.
The real work, the real life, is out there.
You rest within the walls—yes.
But the calling is beyond them.
The growth, the challenge, the movement of God—it’s out there.
Every crack of light is our reminder:
You are being pursued.
The wind still knocks.
The light still finds the crack.
The voice still calls you by name.
Drill the Hole
Where there is no window, where there is no crack of light, make one.
Claw with your fingers, scratch with a stick. When the walls are closing in, plan your escape.
If all you see is wall, drill a hole.
Even a small one.

Let in the smallest breeze.
Let in the first sliver of dawn.
Let the warmth of God’s burning light kiss your cheek again.
Find the crack of light.
When you do, the world will change.
And so will you.
Windows Are Sacred
This is what a window is:
A view back into Eden.
A break in the wall of shame.
A thread that ties shelter to life.
A holy breach in the illusion of separation.
Windows are sacred.
They do not just let in light—
they remind us that we are still being chased
by the God who walked in the garden,
and who still walks among us now.
Reflection:
Where have you built walls to protect yourself… that may also be keeping the light out?
And where is the crack of light already starting to break through?
